Walking Distance

Literally, a few paces from the hotel Texas-sized American fare and Texas-sized hospitality can be enjoyed at Big Vern’s Steakhouse only a 3-minute walk. Right across fast food is available at McDonald’s and Subway for people on the go. The historic art deco landmark U-Drop Inn Cafe is only five minutes away good coffee stop or photo op. Dollar General is a 6-minute walk for your daily needs; Family Pharmacy is a 7-minute walk for your medications and personal care needs.

Elmore Park is only about a 10-minute walk and is a nice little bit of green space for a short walk or a picnic under some trees. It takes roughly 12 minutes to get to the Pioneer West Museum on foot, featuring exhibits on local history and Route 66 stuff. Drivers may find gas stations and a couple of small supermarkets nearby to stock up on provisions before hitting the road again. Most restaurants and attractions in Shamrock are centered on Main Street and Route 66, so most of the places are accessible without one’s having to have a car.

Sweet tooth or an after-dinner Dairy Queen is just 5 minutes away. Neon lights, murals, and retro signs along with a pleasant evening walk around town keep that sense of nostalgia pretty strong for Route 66. It's all quite small and walkable and safe enough to get around for sure in the daylight.
